Solo Project
December 2022
Tilet in Light is a projection mapping installation that reinterprets traditional Ethiopian Tilet patterns through digital media. The piece centers on a hand-assembled foam sculpture inspired by the intricate geometry of woven Tilet—patterns with deep cultural significance that are rarely represented in digital or technological contexts.
As an Ethiopian artist working in the field of creative technology, this project reflects a broader aim: to counter the homogenizing tendencies of digital media by infusing it with culturally grounded forms. Through 3D modeling, laser cutting, and projection mapping using HeavyM, the work explores how diasporic visual languages can be preserved, reimagined, and made resonant in new formats.
